In this paper, the above topic is discussed based on the statistical data obtained from the School Basic Survey, published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The number of science and engineering graduates from various institutions of higher education who have been employed in the manufacturing industry was recounted and a database on R&D(Research and Development) human resources input to the manufacturing industry was reconstructed. This research analyzes changes in the structure of R&D human resources in the manufacturing industry and factors that cause people to leave the industry. In addition, the correlation between R&D human resources input to the manufacturing industry and the value of manufactured goods shipments was analyzed. As a result of these analyses, it was determined that the structure of R&D human resources in Japan has undergone structural changes. and these have played important role in the development of the Japanese manufacturing industry.
